A Chief Petty Officer will have fulfilled all requirements and expectations for the Petty Officer First Class, plus have completed an additional two professional development courses, two unit level training's, and fifteen formal operations. Furthermore, as a Senior NCO, the Chief Petty Officer will demonstrate very strong leadership ability through actively mentoring all new recruits and NCOs, capability in translating orders in the field and accomplishing complex objectives, provide consistent, quality education in the form of BUD level courses, and demonstrate an overall working knowledge within the teams.
Moreover, a Chief Petty Officer will assume staff level responsibilities by performing SEAL Selection, managing BUD's courses, and facilitating professional development training's. To be recognized at this rank, quality of students coming out of BUD training will be exceptional, there is strong communication between senior ranking members of the teams with enlisted personnel, and clear operational and strategic capability will be demonstrated on the field. Additionally, staff functions will be performed with exceptional results and the teams consistently benefit from the input and contributions of this rank.
